Europe Shipping Notes — Read Before You Ship

Europe isn't one customs regime — it's three. The EU customs union covers 27 member states where goods move freely once cleared at the first point of entry. EEA/EFTA countries (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein) are inside the single market for goods but have their own customs and VAT regimes. And the UK operates its own post-Brexit customs regime entirely separate from the EU. EU import VAT ranges from 17% to 27% depending on the destination country — Luxembourg at 17%, Hungary at 27%, with most countries between 19% and 24%. An EORI number is required for commercial imports into the EU and UK. We do not currently ship to Russia or Belarus due to sanctions. Message us with your exact destination country and city before shipping and we'll confirm the current customs picture, VAT rate, EORI requirements and realistic timing.

The Benin City → Europe Corridor

One pickup in Benin City. Delivery to every corner of Europe.

The Benin City to Europe corridor is our largest international service by volume. Europe is home to millions of Nigerians and one of the most diverse diaspora communities in the world. From students in Frankfurt and families in London to professionals in Amsterdam and business owners in Milan, we move documents, food items, parcels, electronics, vehicles and commercial cargo from Edo State to every corner of the continent.

Our approach is built around two modes matched to priority and budget. Air freight reaches every European capital within 3 to 7 business days, ideal for documents, small parcels, food packages and high-value goods. Sea freight moves containers, vehicles and bulk cargo in 20 to 45 days at a fraction of the air cost, routed through Europe's major ports — Rotterdam, Antwerp-Bruges, Hamburg, Le Havre, Valencia, Genoa, Piraeus.

We also help you navigate Europe's complex customs landscape. The EU operates as a single customs union — once your goods clear at the first point of entry, they move freely across all 27 member states. But the EEA/EFTA countries and the UK operate separate regimes, each with their own VAT and duty rules. We prepare the correct documentation for each, so your shipment clears without delays or unexpected charges.

02 — How We Price

What affects the cost of shipping from Benin City across Europe?

Every shipment is unique, so every quote is customised. Here are the four things that determine your rate. Message us and we'll give you an exact figure in minutes.

FACTOR 01

Weight & Volume

Air freight is priced by chargeable weight. Sea freight is priced by volume (cubic metres) or container size. We measure and quote accordingly.

FACTOR 02

Air vs Sea Freight

Air is faster and priced higher. Sea is slower but far cheaper for heavy or bulky items. We'll advise which suits your shipment best.

FACTOR 03

Destination & VAT Rate

European VAT rates vary from 17% to 27% depending on the country. EEA/EFTA and UK shipments have their own customs regimes separate from the EU.

FACTOR 04

Volume & Frequency

One-off senders pay standard rates. Businesses that ship regularly across Europe get discounted account rates and monthly invoicing.

Get an exact rate for your European shipment in minutes.

Send us a message with your item description, weight and European destination. We'll reply with a firm air or sea price — no obligation, no hidden fees.

04 — Customs & Trade Regimes

We handle the paperwork so your shipment clears European customs.

Europe isn't one customs regime — it's three. We know the difference and we prepare the right documentation for each.

Nigerian Export Documentation

We prepare and file the documents required to legally export from Nigeria, including the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, and any necessary certificates.

  • Commercial invoice and packing list
  • Bill of lading (sea) or air waybill (air)
  • Certificate of origin where required
  • NXP form and Nigerian customs documentation
  • Export clearance with Nigerian Customs Service

EU Customs Union Clearance

All 27 EU member states operate as a single customs union. Your shipment clears at the first EU point of entry — typically Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Paris CDG, Frankfurt, Madrid or Warsaw — and then moves freely across all member states.

  • EU customs declaration (SAD — Single Administrative Document)
  • EU TARIC tariff classification
  • EORI number coordination for commercial imports
  • EU health certificates for food, plants and animals
  • CE marking verification for electronics

UK, EEA & EFTA Clearance

The UK operates its own post-Brexit customs regime. Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are inside the single market for goods but outside the EU customs union — each with their own customs and VAT rules.

  • UK HMRC declaration via CDS
  • UK Global Tariff classification
  • Swiss, Norwegian and Icelandic customs declarations
  • Separate VAT/GST registration where applicable
  • Northern Ireland Windsor Framework handling

EU VAT, Duty & EORI

EU import VAT rates range from 17% to 27% depending on the destination country. Customs duty applies under the EU TARIC schedule. An EORI number is required for commercial imports.

  • EU VAT: 17% (Luxembourg) to 27% (Hungary)
  • UK VAT: 20% on most commercial goods
  • Switzerland VAT: 8.1%, Norway VAT: 25%, Iceland VAT: 24%
  • Parcels under €150 generally exempt from duty
  • EORI number advisory and application guidance

09 — FAQ

Benin City to Europe shipping questions.

Everything you need to know before shipping from Nigeria to any European country.

01 Which European countries do you deliver to from Benin City?

We deliver to all 50+ European countries — every EU member state plus the UK, EEA/EFTA countries, the Balkans, Eastern Europe and the European microstates. Coverage includes France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Ireland, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and the European microstates (Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Vatican City). Message us with the exact destination and we'll confirm timing.

02 How do I send a package from Benin City to a European country?

Simply message us on WhatsApp at 0813 094 7747 with your pickup address in Benin City, the destination country and city, and your item description and approximate weight. We'll recommend air or sea freight and reply with a price. Our rider collects from your door, and we handle all documentation, EU customs clearance and delivery to your recipient.

03 How much does it cost to send a package from Benin City to a European country?

Every shipment is quoted individually because the rate depends on the weight and dimensions of your item, the chosen mode (air or sea), your pickup location in Benin City, the destination country and city, and any applicable EU import VAT or duties. Air freight is faster and priced higher. Sea freight is more cost-effective for heavy or bulky cargo. Message us on WhatsApp with your item details and destination and we'll send you an exact, no-obligation price within minutes.

04 How long does delivery from Benin City to a European country take?

Air freight from Benin City to Europe typically takes 3 to 7 business days door-to-door, depending on the destination city and customs processing. Sea freight takes 20 to 45 days depending on the destination port — Northern European ports (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp) are slightly faster than Mediterranean or Baltic ports. Express documents can arrive in 2 to 4 business days.

05 Do you handle EU customs clearance?

Yes. We prepare the Nigerian export documentation, clear your shipment through Nigerian customs, and coordinate with EU customs brokers for import clearance. EU-bound shipments clear customs at the first EU point of entry — typically Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Paris CDG, Frankfurt, Madrid or Warsaw — and then move freely within the EU single market. Required documents typically include a commercial invoice, packing list, and depending on the item, a certificate of origin or specific food/health certificates. We guide you through exactly what is needed.

06 What is an EORI number and do I need one?

An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique identifier required for customs procedures in the EU and UK. If you're importing commercially into the EU, your recipient or their customs broker needs a valid EORI number. For personal gifts and small parcels, an EORI may not be required — the courier or postal operator handles the clearance. We advise you upfront on whether an EORI is needed for your shipment and can assist with the application process.

07 Will I pay EU import VAT and customs duty?

EU import VAT and customs duty depend on the destination country, the value of your goods and whether they qualify for preferential treatment. EU VAT rates range from 17% (Luxembourg) to 27% (Hungary), with most countries between 19% and 24%. Customs duty applies under the EU TARIC schedule. Parcels under €150 are generally exempt from customs duty for individuals, though VAT may still apply. Some countries have higher de minimis thresholds. We advise you upfront on likely charges and can arrange for the recipient or the shipper to cover them.

08 Do you ship to the UK post-Brexit?

Yes. We deliver to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Since Brexit, the UK operates its own customs regime separate from the EU. We handle UK HMRC declarations, provide advice on UK import VAT (currently 20%) and duty under the UK Global Tariff, and coordinate clearance at UK ports (Felixstowe, Southampton, London Gateway, Liverpool, Tilbury) and airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester). Northern Ireland operates under the Windsor Framework with a different customs arrangement — we handle that too.

09 Do you ship to Switzerland, Norway and Iceland?

Yes. Switzerland, Norway and Iceland are in the EEA/EFTA (Iceland and Norway are EEA, Switzerland is EFTA but not EEA). They are inside the European single market for goods but outside the EU customs union — meaning customs clearance is required and VAT/GST is charged separately. Switzerland charges 8.1% VAT, Norway 25%, Iceland 24%. We handle the customs declarations and coordinate clearance in each country.

10 Do you ship to Russia and Belarus?

No. Due to international sanctions imposed following the invasion of Ukraine, we do not currently ship to Russia or Belarus. Most international couriers and freight forwarders have suspended services to both countries. We also cannot process shipments containing sanctioned goods. If you need to reach clients in Russia or Belarus, we can discuss alternative arrangements through neutral third countries on a case-by-case basis — contact us for details.

11 What items cannot be shipped from Nigeria to European countries?

EU and European customs prohibit or restrict narcotics, firearms and ammunition, explosives, counterfeit goods, certain agricultural products, meat and dairy products, fresh produce, some medicines, endangered wildlife products (CITES), and hazardous materials. Some items like food, cosmetics, electronics and supplements require specific declarations or conformity certifications (CE marking for electronics, EU health certificates for food). Message us before shipping anything unusual and we will advise you.

12 Can I send food items from Benin City to European countries?

Yes, with limitations. Packaged, shelf-stable foods such as dried pepper, egusi, ogbono, garri, smoked fish, packaged snacks and non-perishable Nigerian groceries are typically allowed in most EU countries. Fresh meat, dairy and most fresh produce are heavily restricted under EU import rules and usually not permitted. Some countries — notably Germany, Netherlands, Italy and France — have stricter food import rules. We'll advise on packaging and declaration requirements for your destination.

13 Can I ship a car from Benin City to a European country?

Yes. Vehicles are shipped via roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) or in a container by sea freight. Transit time is typically 25 to 45 days to Europe. EU import regulations require specific documentation including the vehicle title, bill of lading, and compliance with EU type approval or national registration rules (TÜV for Germany, ITV for Spain, RDW for Netherlands, MOT for UK, etc.). Import duty is typically 10% of the vehicle's value plus VAT. Contact us for a vehicle shipping quote and guidance.

14 Can I send commercial cargo and bulk goods to European countries?

Yes. We handle commercial shipments of any size — air freight for time-sensitive stock, less than container loads (LCL) and full container loads (FCL) by sea freight for bulk cargo. We work with importers, distributors and e-commerce sellers who ship regularly from Nigeria to Europe. Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe, Antwerp-Bruges is the second largest, and Hamburg is the third — all three are on our routing network. Ask about our business account rates.

15 Is my package insured on European routes?

Yes. Every shipment is handled with care, and we offer cargo insurance on request. Coverage is comprehensive across all European destinations. For valuable items, declare the correct value when booking so you are fully covered against loss or damage in transit.

16 Can I track my shipment to Europe?

Yes. Every shipment on this route is assigned a tracking reference and you receive status updates by WhatsApp or phone from pickup, through Nigerian customs, during transit, at the EU point of entry, after customs clearance, and until final delivery. Send your tracking ID to 0813 094 7747 on WhatsApp for a real-time update.

17 Do you offer business accounts for regular shipping to Europe?

Yes. If you ship regularly from Nigeria to one or more European countries — for e-commerce, distribution, corporate supply or retail — we offer business account rates, scheduled pickups and monthly invoicing. Ask us about the business account when you message.

18 What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers, cash on pickup and online payments. Corporate clients can request invoicing and monthly account billing.

19 What are your working hours?

Our Benin City office is open Monday to Sunday, 8:00am to 8:00pm. WhatsApp and phone support is available 24/7 for urgent shipments and enquiries.
